Arlechina Verdigris

Arlechina Verdigris is a local Virginia author and historical dance ethnologist who specializes in the ritual and combat dance traditions of the Mediterranean and Black Seas from 3300 BCE to present. She is the pioneer of a full ethnographic recording system for both percussion and movement based arts–which have been used to trace the origins of dozens of ritual traditions from Spain to Turkey. Her work places a strong emphasis on the value of minority languages and indigenous oral traditions, particularly those found within the boundaries of the former Roman Empire.
