Art Room Information

2018 Art Room hours
(subject to change):

Friday: 5 pm-10 pm
Saturday: 9 am-7 pm
Sunday: 9 am-11:30 am

As always, the art gallery is a chance to view and bid on fantasy and science fiction themed artwork of any media imaginable. The auction is the highlighted event on Sunday, where each year’s auction has outsold the last. The Artist/Author Alley is a place for convention members to meet the artists and authors who are creating new works of fandom.

Hours of Operation (subject to change)
The art room, including the artist/author alley, will be open from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM on Friday, 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Saturday, and 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM on Sunday. Please note: there are no sales on Sunday until AFTER the auction. MarsCon staff will monitor the room, and collect quick sale money, while it is open. The room will be locked after hours and the art room director (or con chair) will hold the key.



Attention Artists!

If you are interested in submitting artwork for the art gallery & auction for 2018, contact the art room director. Note: all items entered into the gallery must be unique throughout the convention. If you are interested in selling multiples of the same work, please email dealers room coordinator for information on purchasing a dealer’s table.

Art Room Policies
All work must be of a science fiction or fantasy nature. If you are unsure if your work fits into these categories, please contact the art show director beforehand. Space is limited. Not for sale items will only be accepted if space is available.

Gallery artists may designate a “quick sale” price on the Bid Sheet. This allows attendees to purchase art immediately, provided there are no bids on that piece. All items entered in the art gallery must be unique throughout the convention.
To ensure your place in the art show, you must contact the art show director by Monday, December 26, 2017.



2018 Rates

Attending Artists:
The hanging fee for the art gallery and auction is $15 per 4’x4′ panel or $20 per 6’x18″ table. No commission is subtracted from sold artwork. These rates do not include con membership.  Memberships can be purchased through the registration page on the website or at the door. Contact the Art Room Director for a special link to reserve and pay for your panels or table.

Mail-in Artists:
Mailed in artwork will be accepted for 2018. The hanging fee will be $45 for 2 panels or 1 table, and does not include a membership. Additional space may be available.  The Artist will pay for the shipping and handling of their artwork the con. Return shipping and handling should be included in the package, either by pre-paying postage or providing a return package slip with billing account. Please contact the Art Room Director if you have questions about this. The Art Room Director will inspect the Artwork upon arrival and will inform the artist if anything was damaged in shipping. Contact the Art Room Director for mail-in reservation and shipping info.

Art Auction
MarsCon holds an art auction at 12:00 noon on Sunday. Members of the convention may place bids on art during the art room hours. Artwork that receives two or more bids by 7:00 PM Saturday will go to auction. Artwork that receives any bid on Sunday will automatically go to auction (this practice is sometimes referred to as the “golden bar” rule).  If an item goes to auction, the bidding for that item starts over at the auction, bidders must attend the auction to re-bid on those items.

Winning bidders at the auction will purchase their artwork in the art room after the auction. Artwork that was bid on but did not go to auction can be paid for and picked up by the bidder after the auction. Payment will be accepted in cash, check written to the artist, or credit/debit card.
